# Melaka River Cruise ticket price, and what to expect on the boat

Published Malacca River Cruise fares by tier, the 45-minute route, both jetties, and why weekend evening slots sell out for walk-ups.

Published 29 August 2026 5 min read

A Malacca River Cruise ticket costs RM 35 for an adult with MyKad and RM 50 for a foreign adult. Children aged 2 to 12 pay RM 25 or RM 45 on the same two tiers, and under-twos ride free. The trip is 45 minutes over about 9 km, and boats run daily from 9:00 AM with last boarding at 11:00 PM.

## What a Malacca River Cruise ticket actually costs

Here are the published walk-up fares, in full:

| Ticket | MyKad holder | Foreign visitor |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Adult (13+) | RM 35 | RM 50 |
| Child (2 to 12) | RM 25 | RM 45 |
| Under 2 | Free | Free |

On those published fares, two adults and two children come to RM 120 on the MyKad tier or RM 190 on the foreign tier. We put that on a page that also sells

our Malacca night tour

on purpose: with the raw numbers in front of you, you can decide whether to drive down and buy at the jetty instead.

Fares, ticket conditions and what each ticket includes are set by the cruise operator, not by us. Check the current terms at ticket.melakarivercruise.my or on the board at the jetty before you buy.

> **The one thing worth knowing before you plan an evening around it**
>
> Weekend and public-holiday evening slots sell out for walk-ups. The operator’s own online tickets are date-specific and non-refundable, so buying ahead is a commitment rather than a hedge.

## What the ticket gets you

The cruise runs daily from 9:00 AM, with last boarding at 11:00 PM and boats roughly every 30 minutes. The trip takes 45 minutes and covers about 9 km as a round trip, past the old godowns, the painted shophouses, the riverside cafes and under several bridges.

Two jetties serve the route. Taman Rempah is the main one and has the better parking; Muara is nearer the historic district, which matters if you are walking from Dutch Square. If you are joining a guided tour, your driver-guide tells you which one your departure uses, so you are not standing at the wrong one at dusk.

## Day cruise or night cruise?

Night is the popular sailing, because the bridges and shophouse facades are lit and the water holds the reflections. Day is quieter and shows the murals and the restored godowns in detail. Same fare either way.

The daytime sailing shows the river as a working piece of the old town: the godowns, the street art, the cafes with their backs to the water. It is quieter, it pairs naturally with a heritage walk, and it is easier with small children who fade after dark.

The evening sailing is the one people come for. That is why those slots go first, and why our guided evening is built around one.

### Day sailing or night sailing

| | Day | After dark |
| --- | --- | --- |
| What you see | Murals, restored godowns, architecture in detail | Lit bridges and shophouses, reflections on the water |
| Conditions | Hot | Cooler |
| Availability | Generally easier to walk up to | Weekend and holiday slots sell out |

## Buying at the jetty versus booking ahead

There are three ways to get on a boat, and which one is right depends mostly on whether your date is fixed.

- **Buy at the jetty.** Turn up, pay the published fare, wait for the next boat. On a weekday evening or most daytime sailings this is the sensible plan and anything else is over-organising.
- **Buy the operator’s online ticket.** It holds your slot, and it holds your date: those tickets are date-specific and non-refundable. If the weather turns or your plans move, that is on you.
- **Take a guided evening.** The cruise slot is booked as part of the tour, with the trishaw ride and the drive back to Kuala Lumpur. You are paying for the transport and the timing more than for the boat, and we would rather you knew that.

 before you commit to anything.

## Practical notes for the boat

Arrive early enough to queue: boarding is quick, but the counter on a busy Saturday evening is not. The boats are open-sided, so a shower reaches you, and a thin poncho weighs nothing. The river moves air even when the streets are still, so bring a layer if you feel the cold.

- **Where to sit:** the middle of the boat gives you clear angles on both banks. The ends do not.
- **Night photographs:** the low light rewards holding still more than it rewards a better phone.
- **Small children:** under-twos ride free, and there are no child restraints, so keep them on a lap.
- **Weather:** sailings can be held during storms. That is the operator’s call, not ours.

## The short version

Forty-five minutes, about 9 km, RM 35 to RM 50 for an adult depending on your tier, and better after dark. If your date is fixed and it falls on a weekend or a public holiday, do not leave the slot to the counter queue.

Whether you want the rest of the evening handled around it is a separate question, and an honest one. Take a look at your group’s energy levels, decide if you want to drive back to KL late, and then make the call that suits your trip best.
